Ikon Park Redevelopment

Through a collaborative design process, Populous worked with Carlton to develop a clear brief and desired outcomes. Emphasizing Universal Design Principles, the focus was on maximizing efficiency, communication, connectivity, and collaboration.

Workshops with key Carlton departments helped establish a holistic approach for the football club, incorporating design strategies and efficiencies to enhance the building’s performance. Solutions included integrating men’s and women’s departments, optimizing foot traffic flows between club areas and public spaces, and creating match day areas for AFLW games. The facility also features a café, merchandise shop, and function rooms to generate revenue on non-event days.

World-class imaging center

Following the extension project, Populous worked with the Football Club to design a new world-class medical imaging center, which opened in 2025.

Located at Ikon Park, the two story facility, a partnership between Carlton and Imaging Associates, provides on-site medical imaging services that enhance the Club’s cutting-edge high-performance facilities.

Imaging Associates Carlton is also accessible to the public, providing high-quality healthcare to the broader community, including a focus on both women’s health and increased research into injury treatment and prevention.

Carlton is the first AFL Club to have an imaging center located within its own training ground and aligns with the Club’s commitment to solidifying Ikon Park as one of Australia’s leading elite, high-performance facilities.
