Grand River Center

Dubuque, Iowa, United States

The Grand River Center utilizes a contemporary design language to speak to its local conditions. Broad sweeping curves in both plan and elevation reflect the broad natural forms carved by the Mississippi River. Interior and exterior columns are clad with native Dubuque limestone, connecting the building to the surrounding limestone river bluffs. In a city known for its 19th-century brick architecture, the convention center is a strikingly forward-looking building, expressive of the optimism and ideals of the people of Dubuque.
