Major League Baseball Debuts Temporary Ballpark at Fort Bragg

Ballpark to host game for military families on Fourth of July weekend

Major League Baseball in partnership with Fort Bragg in North Carolina will debut a first-of-its-kind temporary ballpark this Sunday, July 3. The facility, designed by Populous, will host a regular season game between the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins in celebration of the nation’s service members for the Fourth of July holiday. Populous architects and event designers collaborated on the event, which marks the first time in American history for a professional sport to play a regular series game at an active military base.

Fort Bragg Field will have a seating capacity of 12,500, the majority of which are reserved for American service members and their families. As the event counts as a part of the regular season for both teams, the field was designed to strict MLB standards.

Announced on March 8, the project revitalized the grounds of a former golf course in less than four months and stands as the first effort to bring regular season games to non-traditional venues. The event will also be the first MLB game ever played in the state of North Carolina.

Following the game, the stadium will be broken down and the space converted into a permanent multi-purpose recreation facility for those who serve at Fort Bragg.

Fort Bragg is the most populated military installation in the United States and is home to the Army’s Global Response Force, which provides strategic military capabilities globally in defense of our nation’s security interests. The installation is virtually a city in itself, consisting of more than 250,000 people, encompassing an area of almost 500 square miles, with an annual impact of $9.8 billion to the local economy.
