The old Chicago Stadium had been a Westside landmark for 65 years, but lacked modern amenities. The United Center emulates its famed predecessor and is four times the size of the original. The arena’s roof retains the old stadium’s vaulted shape to reflect noise back to the arena floor. Its exterior reflects a different era and recreates the familiar buff-colored limestone using precast concrete.
